A daily practice

Do The Hard Thing

A small app for choosing one thing you're avoiding and making time for it.

Sometimes the problem isn't remembering what needs doing. You already know the task, and it keeps slipping behind easier work. DoTheHardThing.app gives that moment a short, guided practice rather than another place to manage a long list.

A day with the app

  1. Start with what's making you anxious or uncomfortable. Put it into words before trying to organize it.
  2. Choose one thing that matters today. The aim is a decision you can act on, not a complete plan for everything.
  3. Give it one protected block of time. Keep the commitment small enough to be specific.
  4. Look back afterward. The app includes a way to review your days rather than letting each one disappear into a checked box.

Keeping it small

The app concentrates on that daily practice. It doesn't try to become a project-management system with teams, dependencies, and a growing backlog.

It runs in the browser, works offline, and doesn't ask you to create an account. Journal entries stay in your browser. That also means clearing browser data can remove them.

Behind the interface is a React and TypeScript progressive web app. The interesting design choice is how much to leave out: enough structure to help someone make a decision, without turning the practice into another system to maintain.
